Guardian of Aruba
Rising above the rugged northern coast of Aruba, the California Lighthouse has stood watch over the island’s western shores for more than a century. Named after the steamship California, which was wrecked nearby in 1891, the lighthouse was completed in 1916 to guide ships safely along this treacherous stretch of Caribbean coastline.
Today, its elegant tower remains one of Aruba’s most enduring landmarks, overlooking a landscape of wind-sculpted dunes, rocky shores, and an endless Caribbean horizon.
Photographed from below, the lighthouse takes on a monumental presence — a silent sentinel reaching toward the sky, connecting the island’s maritime past with its timeless beauty.
Some landmarks guide ships. Others guide us back to the places we love.
